Why does one need the concealed installation door? How to choose such a door? What should one pay special attention to so as not to waste money? Why do more designers choose such door for their projects and most importantly, what pitfalls do you expect if you still decide to install such door for yourself?
In our videos you can get answers for these questions and find a lot of useful information about modern interior design, so to not miss anything, be sure to subscribe and hit the bell.
The concealed door or concealed installation door is so called because it’s frame and, more usually, the door frame is completely hidden in the doorway, and the door itself is fixed on hidden hinges. In this way, the mounted door has no wall protruding elements, such as platbands at the classical door, necessary to mask the technological clearance filled with construction foam.
Such a design is simply ideal for modern design for a number of reasons.
First. Such a door looks simple and restrained, but at the same time stylish and very elegant.
Second. It will allow you to get rid of excess elements in the finish, which means that it will not overload the interior.
Third. The lack of platbands eliminates a very important problem — the combination of them with plinths. For example, you chose oak cognac floor, and you prefer door of a different color, for example, some light one, and it seems the general color scheme of the selected materials is correct, and all is balanced, but the plinths of one color do not match well with the platbands of another color. The solution is the concealed frame.
The fourth. Such a door can be made in a single material with a wall, for example, in wood or stone veneer, or it can also be decorated with decorative plaster or simply painted in the same color as the wall.
All this will allow you to achieve an amazing visual effect and make the entire interior more concise and stylish.
And, the fifth. Such a door can be almost any size in height, some manufacturers claim to be able to manufacture a door up to 5 meters high.
I will not now focus on how to correctly install concealed door I would recommend you to watch ForceMontage channel. The only thing I would like to dwell on is that such a door must be installed during the draft phase. All similar You Tube videos I watched recommend doing it before laying flooring. I am thumbs down on such a scheme and that’s the reason.
If you install the frame before you start laying the floor covering, then you will have to saw the floor material out in the shape of the door, do this qualitatively is highly questionable, and there will be clearances that will then have to be calked, in the end, your grand master plan will lose importance.
That is why in our studio we first lay the floor covering, then install the frame. This method is more complex and painstaking, and requires builders to take a careful approach to work, be neater and scrupulous, and treat materials on site as bought for their money.
Of course, the floor covering also needs to be further protected. As a result, all these difficulties pay off, the frame borders on the floor covering without clearances and joints calked with sealant compound.
For someone, it may seem strange to gibe at some clearances there, but for us it is important, because such details give a feel for eventual result. When choosing concealed installation door, I would recommend paying attention to the following characteristics.
Door frame
They can be divided into two types.
The first one consist of two parts, a directly external visible part made of aluminum and a part made of pressed paper, which is directly attached to the body of the partition.
The second type consists entirely of aluminum. This is what manufacturers do in order to reduce the cost of the product. It's not good or bad, it's just cheaper and it's important to understand what task you use them for.
For example, I would recommend frames of the first type only for gypsum board partition, because if you use any solutions for mounting such door, there is a risk of moisture ingress into these paper elements, which will inevitably lead to deformation of the door frame and, as a result, the interior will be corrupted.
Therefore, I would recommend buying more expensive door frames made of solid aluminum, with stiffeners and a calculated load, such types of door can be made of non-standard sizes of more than two and a half meters and will be long-lasting.
Door leaf
The second essential criterion is selection of door leaf. As a rule, all types of leaf for concealed door are made using frame-panel technology. That is, the pine frame is sheathed with MDF or LPB panels, the interior is filled with cardboard honeycombs, some manufacturers supplement their products with such material as styrodur, an extruded foam polystyrene.
It needs for additional noise insulation, although initially this material was supposed to be a heat insulator. In general, all is similar to the item above — the cheaper the door leaf, the cheaper the raw materials for its production and this all affects the quality of the product.
Also, such types of door leaf are made of solid wood, it costs much more, but in terms of sound insulation they will be an order of magnitude higher than their cheaper MDF counterparts.
Door leaf edge
By the edge type, leaf can be made from an aluminum, with an ABS edge, or without an edge. I would recommend a door without an edge if you are going to paint it, but if you put up wallpaper, then it is better to use the edge.
The edge will prevent the wallpaper from bursting, and they will not tear off the leaf.
